DESCRIPTION OF THE ORDER
The order was founded in 1878 to honor Indian service officials, both local and British. Originally the order had only one degree (companion), two other degrees were added from 1887. The Order of the Indian Empire was conceived as a less privileged version of the Order of the Star of India, founded in 1861, and accordingly, had many more Cavaliers than the latter.
The awarding of the order ceased after August 14, 1947. Formally, the order was not abolished, and the current sovereign of the order is the English Queen Elizabeth II, who ascended the throne a few years after the awarding of the order ceased.Manufacturing Techniques: casting, stamping, engraving.
The badge was a red flower with five petals bearing letters I N D I A, topped with a crown, with the image of Victoria in the center, surrounded by a dark blue ring.
