Soviet WW2 Medal for the Defense of Sevastopol, high quality REPRODUCTION.
Made in Brass. This very high-quality replica has correct aged appearance with convincing looking "wear", patina and blemishes. It even has an ORIGINAL suspension device, an early post-WW2 two-layer model with integral catch of the pin. The ribbon shows age, soiling and wear, and probably came off of an original medal along with the suspension. The medallion measures 31.5 mm in width, about half-mm smaller than the original, but the discrepancy is hard to notice short of measuring it with micrometer.
Of course, the medal differs from the original in many small details, but high-quality fakes like this one are often sold as originals to unsuspecting beginner collectors.  This medal was acquired by an American collector in Moscow in the early 90s, so it is now about 30 years old! This just goes to show that age, patina or original suspension alone do not guarantee in any way that the medal is real!
