1840 Liberty Seated Dime with Drapery, Very choice AU

This is one tough coin in high grade.  A nice 1840 w/Drapery shows up just about never.  PCGS calls this a 50 coin in 55!  There are only 22 coins slabbed by PCGS in AU and Unc combined including resubmissions, but you already know this if you are thinking about this coin.  The strike is so crisp you'd think you might cut your finger on the shield lines!  The rims are problem-free, the dentils complete.  Full disclosure - I think this coin was dipped long ago.  There isn't a hairline to be found, but the color is a bit lighter than I think is natural.  That said, you can't ask for a nicer w/Drapery than this one.  This issue is soooo tough to find in high grade; I've seen a few of the upper end slabbed coins that are not as attractive as this one.  It's worth your time to do some research - Fortin has sold a couple in the last 8 years; one of which was also wiped.  I haven't found any in stock; they just don't show up.  It's expensive, but it's a grand cheaper than one that made its way into a slab (and some of those slabbed coins have also seen a dip or two in their lifetime).  This is one of those coins that you've got to grab when you can.  Please contact me with questions; I'm happy to spend time discussing this offering.  For what it's worth, this coin has never visited PCGS.
